Part of the Mission Hospital group that also runs Bangkok Adventist Hospital, Mission Hospital Phuket is a non-profit private hospital of about 83 beds on Thepkasattri Road, the main road north out of Phuket Town. It has treated foreigners for decades, sees several hundred outpatients a day, and also takes Thai social-security patients, unusually for a private hospital here — which tells you where its prices sit.
What it is known for
Sensible private medicine at the lower end of private prices. Mission Hospital Phuket has about 83 beds, an emergency room, an intensive-care unit and clinics in general medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, ear-nose-and-throat, physiotherapy and dentistry, and it sees five to seven hundred outpatients a day, many of them foreign residents. It belongs to the same non-profit group as Bangkok Adventist Hospital and is a partner site of Loma Linda University in California. It is not a specialist centre and does not pretend to be; what it cannot handle goes to Vachira, a few minutes away, or to the BDMS hospitals for the insured.
Who it suits
Travellers and residents who want a private hospital with English-speaking doctors but a bill closer to public prices than to Bangkok Hospital Phuket’s; families; and anyone staying on the north side of Phuket Town or along Thepkasattri Road. It is also the private hospital nearest the road in from the airport, though Thalang Hospital is nearer the airport itself. For serious trauma, or anything needing a specialist centre, go to one of the two BDMS hospitals instead, and use this one for the everyday.
Cost and insurance
The most affordable private option on the island. Pay at the desk; some insurers direct-bill for admissions, most visitors pay and claim. Ask for the estimate first. The hospital will produce an English medical certificate and an itemised receipt for your insurer on request. One practical note: the hospital’s own website was offline when we checked, and its old web address now redirects to an unrelated site, so use the phone numbers on this page or its Facebook page rather than a search result.
Getting there
On Thepkasattri Road in Ratsada, the main road north out of Phuket Town towards the airport, opposite a Toyota showroom about five minutes from the town centre; the airport is forty minutes further north, Patong thirty-five minutes west over the hill.
