About 28 beds on the Samui ring road at Chaweng, opposite the big Lotus’s supermarket that everyone still calls Tesco. Thai International Hospital has been open for well over a decade and pitches itself between the public hospital and Bangkok Hospital Samui: a 24-hour emergency room, an operating theatre, outpatient clinics, dentistry and a pharmacy, at prices a step below the flagship. Many long-stay residents use it as their default.
What it is known for
Everyday private medicine at a sensible price, right where the visitors are. Thai International Hospital is a mid-sized private hospital — about 28 inpatient beds and eight outpatient examination rooms — on the ring road at Chaweng, opposite Lotus’s, and it has been treating locals and foreigners for well over a decade. It runs a 24-hour emergency room with its own ambulances, an operating theatre, general and specialist outpatient clinics, dentistry and a pharmacy, and it advertises an international patient service around the clock. A great many of Samui’s long-stay residents go here for a doctor, which says something about both its prices and its standards.
Who it suits
Travellers with a minor or moderate illness or injury in Chaweng, Bophut or Lamai who want a private hospital without paying flagship prices; residents needing routine care; and anyone hurt on the Chaweng strip late at night, since the emergency room is a few minutes up the ring road and never closes. English is spoken at the desk and by the doctors. For major trauma, cardiac cases or complex surgery, Bangkok Hospital Samui is better equipped, and this hospital will stabilise and transfer if it needs to — it is ten minutes up the same road.
Cost and insurance
Mid-range private prices — typically a few times what the public hospital charges for the same outpatient visit, and well under Bangkok Hospital Samui. The hospital says it works with international health insurers; in practice that means direct billing for an admission where the insurer has an arrangement, and pay-and-claim for everything else. A deposit is asked for on admission. Confirm the estimate before treatment starts and ask for an itemised receipt and an English medical certificate when you leave; both are routine requests here and take a few minutes.
Getting there
On the Samui ring road (Route 4169) at Chaweng, directly opposite the Lotus’s supermarket — every driver on the island knows ‘Tesco Lotus Chaweng’. It is five to ten minutes by songthaew, motorbike taxi or Bolt from Chaweng Beach Road, and about the same from Bophut; from Lamai allow twenty minutes, from Nathon thirty. Phone +66 77 332 654, 24 hours; the 077 245 720 range still appears in directories as a second line. The hospital sends its own ambulance anywhere on the island when you call.
Details checked against the hospital’s own website, September 2026. Call before a non-urgent visit; in an emergency call 1669 or the hospital’s own emergency line above. Travel information, not medical advice.
