The Royal Thai Police hospital, but open to everyone: a 650-bed public general hospital on Rama I Road at the Ratchaprasong intersection, opposite CentralWorld and two minutes from BTS Chit Lom, with a 24-hour emergency room. The most central hospital of any kind for the Siam and Ratchaprasong hotel and shopping district.

What it is known for

Location. Police General Hospital was established in 1952 for the police force and their families, but it is a public hospital that treats the general public, and its site — the Ratchaprasong intersection, between CentralWorld and the Gaysorn and Central Chidlom malls — makes it the closest hospital of any kind to the Siam, Ratchaprasong and Chit Lom hotel and shopping district. It is a full general hospital of about 650 beds with a 24-hour emergency room. It also houses the police forensic medicine institute, so the Tourist Police may bring you here after an assault or a road accident to have injuries documented for the case file.

Who it suits

Anyone hurt or taken ill in the Siam, Ratchaprasong or Chit Lom district who wants the nearest emergency room, budget travellers who need real treatment at public prices, and anyone the police are already dealing with, since the injury report from here is the one their paperwork uses. It is Thai-first and busy; for an English-language consultation with insurance, Bumrungrad is ten minutes away on Sukhumvit Soi 3 and BNH is a short BTS ride away at Sala Daeng.

Cost and insurance

Public-hospital prices, with the foreigner tariff still far below any private bill. Payment is at the cashier and insurance is pay-and-claim; ask for the itemised receipt and an English-language medical certificate, and bring your passport. If the police are involved, get the case number and the name of the station handling it too — insurers ask for both, and the hospital’s injury report is tied to them, so keep a copy of everything you are given.

Getting there

On Rama I Road at the Ratchaprasong intersection, across from CentralWorld; BTS Chit Lom is a two-minute walk, BTS Siam about ten, and the elevated Skywalk runs past the door. Taxis are hopeless around Ratchaprasong at rush hour, so walk from the BTS if you can, or have a Grab driver come to the Rama I frontage. The switchboard is +66 2 207 6000; the emergency room is open 24 hours.

Details checked against the hospital’s own website, September 2026. Call before a non-urgent visit; in an emergency call 1669 or the hospital’s own emergency line above. Travel information, not medical advice.
