The newest of Bangkok’s big international hospitals, opened in October 2020 in a 25-storey tower on Rama IV Road beside the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre. Licensed for 550 beds, JCI-accredited, with a 24-hour emergency department, its own ambulances and an aeromedical team, and a deliberate focus on complex cases.
What it is known for
Being new, large and specialist-led. MedPark opened on 1 October 2020 in a purpose-built 25-storey, 90,000-square-metre tower on Rama IV Road; at full operation it is licensed for 550 inpatient beds, including a large critical-care capacity. It won JCI accreditation within a few years of opening and has since renewed it. The emergency department on the ground floor runs 24 hours, and the hospital operates ambulances equipped for intensive care as well as an aeromedical team for transfers by helicopter or commercial flight. Its thirty-odd specialties lean towards the complicated end — cardiology, oncology, neurology and critical care — and the building, all glass and daylight, looks more like a hotel than a hospital.
Who it suits
Anyone staying around Rama IV, Asok, Khlong Toei or the convention centre, and anyone whose problem is serious enough to want a big tertiary hospital with a modern intensive-care unit. Business travellers at the Asok end of Sukhumvit are one MRT stop away. It is less of a walk-in clinic than Bumrungrad and more of a place to be admitted; for a minor complaint any of the Sukhumvit or Silom hospitals will do, and for something complicated with insurance it belongs on the same shortlist as Bumrungrad and Bangkok Hospital.
Cost and insurance
Top-tier private prices, comparable with Bumrungrad and Bangkok Hospital. Direct billing is available to insurers with a contract; a deposit on admission otherwise, and pay-and-claim for outpatient visits. As at every private hospital in the city, ask for a written estimate before any procedure and keep the itemised receipts and the discharge summary for your claim. If your insurer’s assistance line prefers a different hospital, it will say so when you call — call before you go if you can.
Getting there
On Rama IV Road at the Ratchadaphisek junction, next to the FYI Center and The PARQ. The easiest route is the MRT: from Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre station take exit 2 and walk about 200 metres through The PARQ building; MRT Khlong Toei is also close. From Sukhumvit it is one stop from Sukhumvit station on the Blue Line, or a short taxi ride down Asok.
