Tioman Island
Tioman is a mountainous, densely forested island thirty kilometres off Malaysia's east coast in Pahang, about thirty-nine kilometres long and twelve wide, with granite peaks rising to over a thousand metres and the twin pinnacles known as the Dragon's Horns at its southern end. There is one short road; everywhere else you go by boat or on a jungle path. Villages are strung along the west coast — Tekek, ABC, Salang, Genting — with Juara alone on the east, facing the open South China Sea. The island is duty free, the diving is the best on Malaysia's east coast after the Perhentians, and the whole thing closes for the north-east monsoon.
