Sriphat is the special-service medical centre of Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Medicine, set up in 1993 and housed in the tall Sriphat building on the Suan Dok hospital campus. It offers the university’s specialists by appointment, more than thirty clinics, private inpatient rooms, an intensive-care unit and a Foreign Center for international patients, at prices above the public hospital next door and below the private flagships. It is built for planned care; for an emergency, use the Suan Dok emergency room on the same campus.
What it is known for
The university’s special-service arm. Sriphat Medical Center was set up by Chiang Mai University in 1993 and since 2008 has been a unit of the Faculty of Medicine, occupying the tall Sriphat building on the Suan Dok hospital campus. The idea is simple: the same professors who staff Suan Dok, seen by appointment in a quiet, modern building, with private rooms on the upper floors, an intensive-care unit, imaging and operating theatres, at prices between the public hospital and the private ones. Its English site lists more than thirty clinics, from cardiology and gastroenterology to orthopaedics and ophthalmology, plus a Foreign Center for international patients. It is where many long-stay foreigners in Chiang Mai go for planned specialist care.
Who it suits
Anyone who wants a university specialist without Suan Dok’s queues: chronic conditions, second opinions, elective surgery, scans, check-ups and dialysis, for which it lists a 24-hour haemodialysis clinic. Long-stay residents make up much of its clientele, and English is spoken. For anything urgent, go to the Suan Dok emergency room on the same campus, which is open 24 hours, or call 1669; Sriphat is built for planned care rather than walk-in emergencies. It is not a walk-in clinic in the private-hospital sense either — ring the call centre, +66 53 936 900, and book.
Cost and insurance
In between. Sriphat charges more than Suan Dok’s public rates — that is the point — but generally less than Ram or Bangkok Hospital for a comparable specialist visit, and it publishes its room rates online: a standard private room was listed at 2,400 baht a night in 2026, before doctor and nursing fees. Most foreign patients pay and claim; direct billing is limited. Ask for the estimate in writing, keep the itemised receipts and request an English medical certificate. As a public-university facility it is careful with paperwork, which insurers appreciate.
Getting there
Sriphat is inside the Suan Dok hospital campus, immediately west of Suan Dok Gate on the west side of the old city; its building is the tall one on the Inthawarorot Road side, and the address is 110/392 Inthawarorot Road. It is five minutes by car from Nimman and ten from Tha Phae Gate, and red songthaews along Suthep Road drop you at the campus gate for a short walk.
