Kasih Ibu began in 1987 as a maternity clinic on Jalan Teuku Umar and became a full general hospital in 1991; it is now the flagship of a four-hospital Balinese group. It runs a 24-hour emergency unit and ambulance service, intensive care, operating theatres, radiology and laboratory, with cardiac and cerebrovascular, dialysis, endoscopy, eye and oncology services on site, and a round-the-clock team that deals with travel insurers.
What it is known for
Depth in the middle of the market. Kasih Ibu Denpasar is the flagship of a Balinese group with four hospitals on the island, and it carries more of the everyday specialties than the small international hospitals in the south: cardiac and cerebrovascular care, dialysis, endoscopy, eye surgery, oncology and physiotherapy, alongside a 24-hour emergency unit, intensive care and operating theatres. It also does the medical check-ups Indonesian visas require. Records are shared electronically across all four of the group’s hospitals, which matters if you start at one and finish at another.
Who it suits
Visitors staying in Denpasar, Sanur or Seminyak who want private care without the international-hospital price, long-stay residents, and insured travellers with something that needs a specialist rather than an emergency room. The group states that its international team answers insurer and patient enquiries around the clock and will coordinate a guarantee of payment, and that it can meet a patient at the airport by ambulance or car on request. For a straightforward road injury in Kuta, the hospitals nearer the Bypass are quicker to reach.
Cost and insurance
Private Indonesian pricing: several times a public hospital, comfortably below the international hospitals at Kuta and Nusa Dua. The group publishes an insurance list and says enquiries from insurers, third-party administrators and patients are answered within fifteen minutes, with outpatient appointments arranged by the insurer through its alarm centre against a guarantee of payment. Where that is not in place, expect to pay on the day and to leave a deposit on admission. Ask for the estimate first and keep the itemised bill and an English medical report for the claim.
Getting there
On Jalan Teuku Umar, one of the main roads through central Denpasar, a few minutes from Level 21 Mall and the Badung market and roughly half an hour from Kuta or Sanur outside the worst of the traffic. The emergency unit runs its own ambulances; in a real emergency call rather than driving across Denpasar yourself.
