A purpose-built international hospital in Block D of the ITDC resort complex at Nusa Dua, opened in May 2012 and now part of the Siloam group. It runs a 24-hour accident and emergency centre and a 24-hour medical centre, and sits within a few minutes of the Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa hotels and about twenty minutes from the airport. The hospital states it was the first in Indonesia accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International.
What it is known for
Being the hospital inside the resort. BIMC Siloam Nusa Dua opened in May 2012 in Block D of the ITDC complex, within walking distance of the Nusa Dua hotels, the convention centre and Bali Collection, and it was the sister hospital built to give the south-eastern corner of the island the same standard of cover as Kuta. It is a two-storey facility with a 24-hour accident and emergency centre, a 24-hour medical centre, dental and cosmetic units, and the same evacuation machinery as its sister. The hospital says it was the first in Indonesia to earn ACHS International accreditation.
Who it suits
Visitors staying at Nusa Dua, Tanjung Benoa, Jimbaran or Uluwatu, for whom the drive to Kuta in the afternoon is a real obstacle, and conference and cruise passengers who want to be seen quickly in English. Water-sports injuries from Tanjung Benoa and the ordinary run of holiday illness are its daily work. As at Kuta, it is a small hospital: major trauma, neurosurgery and long intensive-care stays are stabilised and transferred, either to Denpasar or, on an evacuation policy, out of the country.
Cost and insurance
The same bracket as its sister hospital in Kuta, and the same reason: this is care priced for foreign patients. The group deals directly with a long published list of insurers and assistance companies, so a guarantee of payment is often arranged before you arrive — phone your policy’s assistance line first if there is time. Otherwise outpatient visits are settled on the day and an admission needs a deposit. Get the estimate in writing before anything starts, and leave with the itemised receipt and a discharge summary; both are what an insurer asks for later.
Getting there
Inside the ITDC gates at Nusa Dua, Block D, five minutes from the main resort hotels, ten from Tanjung Benoa and about twenty from Ngurah Rai airport. The security post at the ITDC entrance will wave a car through to the hospital if you say where you are going. Grab and Gojek serve the area, and most Nusa Dua hotels will send a car.
