Jeriau Waterfall in Fraser's Hill
Part of the Fraser's Hill travel guide — see every topic in All Fraser's Hill Guides.
Jeriau Waterfall is a small waterfall in the forest about 5 kilometres from the Fraser's Hill town centre. A short drive and a short walk through the trees bring you to the falls and a pool at the bottom. It is a calm, shady place for a picnic and a cool break from walking.
What you will see
The waterfall is not tall, about 6 metres, but it is pretty. Clear water falls over dark rocks into a pool surrounded by green forest, ferns and moss. The sound of the water and the cool air make it a peaceful spot. There have been picnic shelters and toilets near the falls. In the past, building work on the hill caused silt to wash into the river, and the water and pool were affected for a time. Conditions change, so it may look different from older photos.
Getting to the falls
From the town centre, drive or take a taxi about 5 kilometres along the road past the old golf course area. The drive takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the road. From the road there is a short walk of about 15 minutes, with steps down to the falls. The steps can be wet and slippery, so walk slowly. You can also walk all the way from town on the road, but it takes much longer and there is little shade.
Open or closed
Jeriau Waterfall has been closed at times because of landslides, repairs and safety work. Before you go, ask at your hotel or the tourist information office whether the site and the path are open. Do not climb over barriers if it is closed. After heavy rain, the water can rise quickly and become fast and brown. If that happens, stay out of the water and enjoy the view from the path. Rules at the site can also change from season to season.
Tips for your visit
Go in the morning, when it is quiet and the light is soft. Bring water, a snack and a light jacket, because the forest is cool and damp. Wear shoes with good grip. If swimming is allowed, the water is cold, and rocks are slippery. Take all your rubbish with you. Keep an eye out for birds and butterflies along the path. Combine the falls with a drive around the quieter roads at the edge of town. The road back to town is quiet, so drive slowly and watch for wildlife.
