The big public hospital for Bang Lamung district. Nearly 500 beds, a 24-hour emergency room and every major department, at Thai public-hospital prices — which for a foreigner paying cash are a fraction of a private bill. The trade-off is queues, crowded wards and paperwork mostly in Thai.
What it is known for
Size and reach. With around 480 beds this is the largest hospital in the Pattaya area by a wide margin and the Ministry of Public Health’s referral hospital for Bang Lamung district: the one that takes the serious road-accident cases, the complicated births, the long admissions and the public-health work that private hospitals do not touch. Every major department is here and the emergency room never closes. It was renamed from Bang Lamung Hospital in November 2024; taxi drivers, older maps and most insurance lists still use the old name, and either will get you here.
Who it suits
Travellers without insurance who need real care at a price they can pay, long-stay residents who hold Thai social security, and anyone in an emergency for whom it is simply the nearest big hospital. It is not the place for a quick English-language consultation: the queues are long, the wards are crowded, forms are in Thai and English is limited to the emergency room and a few doctors. Bring a Thai-speaking friend if you can.
Cost and insurance
Public-hospital prices. Foreigners are charged more than Thai citizens but still a fraction of what any private hospital in town bills for the same treatment. Payment is in cash or by card at the cashier before you leave; insurers almost never direct-bill a public hospital, so expect to pay and claim. Bring your passport, and ask for an itemised receipt and a medical certificate in English before you go — both are routine requests.
Getting there
In Na Kluea at the northern end of Pattaya, off Sawang Fa Road near Naklua market, about fifteen minutes from Central Pattaya. Songthaews running north along Naklua Road stop close by; a Bolt or taxi is easier with luggage or an injury. Say ‘rong phayaban Bang Lamung’ — the old name — and every driver in the city knows it.
