If money is not the first question, this is where most visitors end up: a large private hospital on Sukhumvit Road in North Pattaya, part of the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services group, with a 24-hour emergency centre, interpreters in more than 20 languages and dedicated centres for heart, orthopaedic, cancer, eye and hyperbaric medicine.
What it is known for
The widest specialist cover on the Eastern Seaboard. Bangkok Hospital Pattaya is the flagship of the BDMS group outside the capital, with dedicated centres for heart, orthopaedics and trauma, women’s and children’s health, eyes, ear-nose-and-throat, dermatology, rehabilitation, dialysis and mental health. Its emergency centre is open around the clock, is verified by the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand as a Level 2 trauma centre, and runs its own ambulance fleet. For divers heading out to Koh Larn or Samae San it matters that the hospital also operates a hyperbaric medicine unit, one of very few on this coast. It was among the first hospitals in Thailand to earn JCI accreditation, in 2006.
Who it suits
Anyone with travel insurance, anyone with a serious illness or injury, and anyone who wants to be treated in their own language without waiting. The International Service Center handles insurance coordination, interpreters and the paperwork that embassies and insurers ask for afterwards. Families use it for the Child Health Center; long-stay residents use it for everything from annual check-ups to surgery. It is also where the smaller private hospitals in town transfer the cases they cannot handle.
Cost and insurance
The most expensive hospital in Pattaya, and priced like the Bangkok flagships. Cashless direct billing is available only to insurers the hospital has a contract with; anyone else pays up front or leaves a deposit on admission, so ring your insurer’s assistance line before you go if the situation allows. Ask for a written estimate before any procedure, and keep every receipt and the discharge summary — both are needed for a claim.
Getting there
On Sukhumvit Road at the North Pattaya Road junction, roughly ten minutes by taxi from Central Pattaya and twenty from Jomtien; Bolt and Grab both work, and any songthaew running north along Sukhumvit passes the gate.
