An independent private hospital that opened with 50 beds in 1994 and moved into a new tower on Mittraphap Road in 2018, now about 200 beds. It is the one hospital in Khon Kaen with JCI accreditation and the one most explicitly set up for foreign patients, with a 24-hour trauma centre, an international patient department and pick-up at Khon Kaen Airport, fifteen minutes away.
What it is known for
International accreditation in a mid-sized package. Ratchaphruek opened in March 1994 as a 50-bed hospital and moved into a new building on Mittraphap Road in August 2018, growing to about 200 beds; it earned JCI accreditation in August 2019 and added Global Healthcare Accreditation in 2023. It runs a trauma centre that its website says is open 24 hours, a stroke centre and a maternal and child centre among eleven specialty centres in all. It is the hospital in Khon Kaen most explicitly set up for foreign patients, with a medical-travel programme, telemedicine consultations before you arrive and pick-up at Khon Kaen Airport, and it is close to the university on the north side of town.
Who it suits
Visitors staying around the university or on the northern side of town, medical travellers who want an internationally accredited private hospital at north-eastern prices, and anyone arriving by air — it is fifteen minutes from the airport, and will collect arranged patients. It is a sound choice for planned care and for moderate emergencies; for major trauma or a heart attack the two public giants and Bangkok Hospital Khon Kaen have deeper specialist benches, and Ratchaphruek will transfer what it cannot handle. English is spoken, and there is a dedicated international patient line.
Cost and insurance
Private pricing in the middle of the Khon Kaen range, below Bangkok Hospital Khon Kaen. Direct billing depends on your insurer’s contracts — ask when you call — and a deposit is normal on admission for anyone without a guarantee of payment. Medical-travel patients are quoted package prices in advance, which is the easiest way to know the bill before you fly. As everywhere, ask for a written estimate before any procedure, keep the itemised receipt and request an English medical certificate for any claim; the international patient department handles that paperwork as a matter of routine.
Getting there
On the Mittraphap Road (Highway 2) frontage on the north side of the city, heading out towards Udon Thani, close to Khon Kaen University and 11 kilometres — about fifteen minutes — from Khon Kaen Airport. Coming from the centre, the hospital’s own directions say to take the parallel frontage road at the Sam Liam (Triangle) junction rather than the underpass. Grab and taxis know it. Switchboard and hotline +66 43 333 555, day and night. Tell the driver “rong phayaban Ratchaphruek”; the new tower beside the highway is the landmark.
Details checked against the hospital’s own website, September 2026. Call before a non-urgent visit; in an emergency call 1669 or the hospital’s own emergency line above. Travel information, not medical advice.
