If you have insurance, or simply want to be seen quickly, this is the hospital: a 100-bed private hospital on the highway at the north-western edge of town, opened in 1996 as Kanchanaburi Memorial Hospital and run by Bangkok’s Synphaet group since 2020. It has a 24-hour emergency department, specialist clinics from morning to evening and an international accreditation that is rare for a provincial hospital of this size.
What it is known for
Being the best-equipped private hospital in the province. Opened in 1996 as Kanchanaburi Memorial Hospital, it passed to the Synphaet group — a Bangkok private-hospital chain — in 2019, took the group’s name in 2020 and has been upgraded since: it earned AACI international accreditation in July 2022, which the hospital says made it the first in Asia to hold that standard alongside its ISO certificate. It runs a 24-hour accident and emergency department with emergency physicians on duty around the clock, specialist clinics in heart, brain and nerve, bone and joint, digestive, women’s and children’s medicine from eight in the morning to eight at night, and 100 beds.
Who it suits
Anyone with travel insurance, anyone with an injury or illness that needs a specialist or an overnight stay, and anyone staying near the Bridge or on Mae Nam Kwai Road, for whom it is also the closest hospital. It is the natural first stop coming back from Erawan or Sai Yok, since it is the first hospital you reach on the road into town. English is spoken to a degree but no interpreter service is advertised, so bring a translation app; for cases beyond a provincial private hospital it will stabilise you and arrange onward transfer to Bangkok.
Cost and insurance
The most expensive hospital in Kanchanaburi, but at provincial rather than Bangkok prices: an outpatient visit costs a few times the public tariff, and an admission needs a deposit. Direct billing depends on your insurer having a contract with the hospital, and is usually offered only for admissions; ring your insurer’s assistance line first if you can, and expect to pay and claim for outpatient care. Ask for a written estimate before any procedure, and keep every receipt and the discharge summary — both are needed for a claim, as is an English medical certificate, which the hospital will write on request.
Getting there
On Saengchuto Road — Route 323 — in Tha Makham, at the north-western edge of town where the road leaves for Erawan and Sai Yok: about five minutes by car from the Mae Nam Kwai Road guesthouses, six from the railway station and ten from the Bridge or from Phaholpolpayuhasena at the far end of town. Any songthaew or bus heading out along the highway passes it. Tell the driver “rong phayaban Sinphaet” or, if that draws a blank, the old name, “Kanchanaburi Memorial”, which everyone still uses.
