Opened in 1997 as the first private hospital in Hua Hin, San Paulo is a mid-sized general hospital of about 60 beds on Phetkasem Road between Soi 84 and 86, a short way south of the clock tower. It advertises a 24-hour emergency room, an intensive-care unit and the usual outpatient clinics, and it has an international department used to foreign patients and their insurers.
What it is known for
Long experience with visitors at a sensible price. San Paulo opened in 1997 as the first private hospital in Hua Hin and is the one many long-stay residents use for everything short of major surgery. It is a general hospital of about 60 beds with outpatient clinics in general medicine, paediatrics, physiotherapy, dentistry and dialysis, a radiology department, an intensive-care unit and an emergency room it describes as open 24 hours — which sees the everyday casualties of a beach town: stomach bugs, ear and skin infections, sunburn, dehydration and scooter scrapes. It is a modest building rather than a medical campus; cases beyond its scope are stabilised and moved to Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin or to Bangkok.
Who it suits
Visitors staying in the centre who want to be seen in English, quickly, for something that does not need a major hospital; families with a sick child; and anyone with a moderate injury who is close by, since the emergency room can stabilise and refer. It is also the sensible private choice for travellers whose insurance has a modest limit or a high excess, and for long-stay residents who want a doctor without a production. Complex surgery and serious trauma are better taken directly to Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin, a kilometre further south, or to Hua Hin Hospital if money is the constraint.
Cost and insurance
Mid-range private prices — well below Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin, above the public hospitals. The hospital says it works with life, accident and travel insurers and will coordinate with a foreign insurer for an admission; expect a deposit unless a guarantee has already been given, and expect an outpatient visit to be pay-and-claim. Ask for the estimate first, keep the receipts, and ask for an English medical certificate before you leave. Thailand’s compulsory motor insurance covers some injury costs after a road accident involving a registered vehicle, so bring the rental papers if that is how you were hurt.
Getting there
On Phetkasem Road between Hua Hin Soi 84 and Soi 86, just north of Market Village and under a kilometre south of the clock tower — walkable from hotels along that stretch, a couple of minutes by motorbike taxi or songthaew from the centre, and every Bolt and Grab driver knows it. Coming from the north it is on the way to Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin, so if you are in a taxi and unsure which you need, this is the first one you reach. Phone +66 32 532 576; in a real emergency, 1669.
Details checked against the hospital’s own website, September 2026. Call before a non-urgent visit; in an emergency call 1669 or the hospital’s own emergency line above. Travel information, not medical advice.
