If money is not the first question, this is where most visitors end up: a five-storey private hospital on Phetkasem Road at Soi 94, opened in April 2011 by the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services group, with 64 beds including a 12-bed intensive-care unit, a 24-hour emergency department, advanced-life-support ambulances and a helicopter link to the group’s Bangkok hospitals.
What it is known for
Being the only hospital on this coast built to international private standards. Bangkok Hospital Hua Hin opened on 6 April 2011 as the nineteenth hospital in the BDMS network and received Joint Commission International accreditation effective 1 March 2024. It is not large — 64 beds, 12 of them intensive care, in a five-storey building — but it has the specialists a resort town needs: internal medicine, general and orthopaedic surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ear-nose-and-throat, urology, radiology, rehabilitation and dentistry. The emergency department runs around the clock with advanced-life-support ambulances and a mobile ICU, and its Sky ICU service can fly a critical patient to Bangkok. It also runs clinics at Market Village and in Pak Nam Pran.
Who it suits
Anyone with travel insurance, anyone with a serious illness or injury, and anyone who wants to be treated in English without a wait. It is the hospital the resorts and the town’s large retiree community use by default, and the one the smaller hospitals along the coast transfer difficult cases to when they do not go straight to Bangkok. Families use it for paediatrics; riders and divers use the emergency department. It is not the place for a routine complaint on a tight budget — San Paulo or the public hospital will see to that for a fraction of the bill.
Cost and insurance
The most expensive hospital on this coast, and priced like the group’s Bangkok flagships. Cashless direct billing is available only to insurers the hospital has a contract with; anyone else pays up front or leaves a deposit on admission, so ring your insurer’s assistance line before you go if the situation allows. Ask for a written estimate before any procedure, and keep every receipt and the discharge summary — both are needed for a claim. After a road accident the compulsory motor insurance on a rented vehicle covers some injury costs, but only for a licensed driver; bring the rental papers and your licence.
Getting there
On Phetkasem Road at Hua Hin Soi 94, just south of Market Village and about two kilometres — five to ten minutes in traffic — from the clock tower; from Khao Takiab it is closer still. Bolt and Grab both come here, and the green songthaews running south along Phetkasem pass the entrance. In an emergency call the hospital’s own ambulance on +66 32 616 888 (or 1719 from a Thai phone) rather than driving. Its Pak Nam Pran clinic at 507 Moo 2, Pak Nam Pran (+66 32 616 890, weekdays 9:00–19:00) handles minor problems for anyone staying down that way.
