Chong Hua opened a second hospital in Mandaue in 2016, on Mantawi International Drive in the reclamation zone a few minutes from the two bridges to Mactan. It is newer, easier to drive to and easier to park at than the uptown campus, with the same medical group behind it, and in 2024 it was accredited by the Department of Tourism as a tertiary hospital for medical tourism.
What it is known for
Being the modern half of the region’s best-known hospital name, and on the right side of the water. The Mandaue campus opened in 2016 with the same group, many of the same consultants and a purpose-built building rather than a century-old site. In 2024 the hospital states it was accredited by the Philippine Department of Tourism as a tertiary hospital for medical tourism, the country’s formal recognition that a hospital is set up for foreign patients. The Department of Health licenses it at Level 2 with 338 authorised beds, against Level 3 and 660 beds at the Cebu City campus — the reason the group moves its hardest cases uptown. Who it suits
Anyone staying on Mactan, at a resort near the airport, or in Mandaue and the northern reclamation area, where reaching uptown Cebu City can take an hour in the evening. It suits a visitor who wants the Chong Hua name, English-speaking specialists and a new building, for anything from a bad stomach to surgery. The rarest sub-specialties and the largest intensive-care capacity sit at the Cebu City campus, and the group moves patients between the two, so starting here costs you nothing if you turn out to need the other.
Cost and insurance
The same rules as the Cebu City campus: private Philippine prices, a partial payment asked for on admission, and the bill settled at the billing section before discharge. The hospital publishes one list of accredited health plans and insurers for the group, and it includes International SOS and Allianz Worldwide, so a guarantee of payment is possible where your policy runs through one of them. Getting there
Mantawi International Drive, in the City South Special Economic Administrative Zone on Mandaue’s reclaimed waterfront, a few minutes from the Marcelo Fernan and Mactan-Mandaue bridges. From the airport allow twenty minutes off-peak and considerably more in the evening, when both bridges back up; from the Mactan resort strip, half an hour to an hour. Grab is the simplest way there.
