Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital, known to everyone as Cebu Doctors or CDUH, opened on Osmeña Boulevard in 1972 and is the teaching hospital of Cebu Doctors’ University. It is the flagship of the CebuDoc Group, which also runs hospitals on Mactan, in Bohol, Ormoc and San Carlos, and it is the most central of the large private hospitals in Cebu City.
What it is known for
Being the city’s teaching hospital, and being in the middle of everything. It opened on Osmeña Boulevard in August 1972 and marked its fiftieth year in 2022; the Department of Health licenses it as a Level 3 hospital with 300 authorised beds. It is the hospital of Cebu Doctors’ University and the flagship of the CebuDoc Group, whose other hospitals cover Mactan, Bohol, Ormoc and San Carlos. It was the first facility in the region to offer nuclear medicine, in 1990, and the group lists a centre for hyperbaric medicine alongside the usual full range of specialties. A city-centre teaching hospital means depth of staff and a busy outpatient department.
Who it suits
Visitors staying downtown or uptown who want a large private hospital a short ride away, rather than a drive out to the bridges. It is a practical first stop for the ordinary run of travel trouble — an infection, a fever that will not break, a fall — with the specialists of a teaching hospital behind it if the problem turns out to be bigger than it looked. It sits on Osmeña Boulevard among the university buildings, so the streets around it are busy with students and traffic and parking is the usual city compromise.
Cost and insurance
Private Philippine pricing, in the same band as the other private hospitals in the city. The standard local rule applies: a deposit or a written guarantee of payment before you are admitted, and the account settled before you are discharged. The group does not publish a list of accredited international insurers in the way Chong Hua does, so assume you will pay and claim unless your assistance company has arranged something — call the number on your policy first if there is time, and ask the admitting desk what it accepts. Keep the itemised bill, the discharge summary and an English medical certificate.
Getting there
On Osmeña Boulevard in central Cebu City, a few minutes from Fuente Osmeña circle and walkable from many downtown hotels. Every driver knows it as Cebu Doctors, and jeepneys along Osmeña Boulevard pass the door. The group publishes a single main line, +63 32 253 7511 to 12, which connects every department; older numbers for the hospital still circulate in directories and may not answer, and no separate emergency or ambulance line is published. From Mactan and the airport allow an hour in the late afternoon, when both bridges are solid, and about half that in the morning.
