The first and largest site of the Thu Cuc TCI system, at 286 Thuy Khue on the southern shore of West Lake. It is a full general hospital rather than a clinic, licensed by the Ministry of Health, with departments across internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and 24-hour emergency and obstetric on-call lines.
What it is known for
Being the West Lake hospital. Thu Cuc’s Thuy Khue site is the original and largest of its group and a genuine general hospital, licensed by the Ministry of Health, with multidisciplinary case conferences and departments across internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics and obstetrics. It publishes a 24-hour emergency number and a separate 24-hour obstetric on-call line. The group’s other Hanoi addresses on Tran Duy Hung and Dai Tu are clinics rather than hospitals, so if you are told to go to Thu Cuc, check which one is meant before you get in a taxi.
Who it suits
Anyone staying in Tay Ho, which is where a large share of Hanoi’s long-stay foreign residents live and where a good many visitors now book their hotels. It handles the ordinary run of travel medicine — stomach infections, fevers needing a blood test, minor injuries, skin problems — without the international-hospital bill, and it is a sensible maternity option for residents. Serious trauma should go to Viet Duc, and anything that needs a doctor who works comfortably in English is safer at Hanoi French Hospital.
Cost and insurance
Vietnamese private pricing, in the same broad band as Hong Ngoc: several times the public hospitals, well under the international tier. Assume pay-and-claim unless you have checked in advance that the hospital deals with your insurer, and expect to settle at the cashier before you leave. Ask for an itemised receipt, and ask specifically for a medical report in English if you intend to claim — a Vietnamese-only discharge note will slow a claim down badly once you are home.
Getting there
At 286 Thuy Khue in Tay Ho, on the road that runs along the southern shore of West Lake, roughly three kilometres north-west of Hoan Kiem Lake and ten to fifteen minutes by car from the Old Quarter. Grab and Xanh SM both serve it, and Thuy Khue is a straight run from the lake so it is easy to describe to a driver.
