Opened in 1988 as Rajyindee Hospital and now majority-owned by the Thonburi Healthcare Group, this is Hat Yai’s neighbourhood private hospital: 196 registered beds and 32 outpatient rooms on Rajyindee Road in the eastern part of the centre, with a spine unit, cardiology, gastroenterology, a rehabilitation centre and operating theatres staffed around the clock. Thai HA-accredited seven times running and internationally accredited by AACI, it sees many Malaysian and Singaporean visitors.
What it is known for
Everyday private medicine at a fair price, for nearly forty years. Thonburi Rajyindee opened on Rajyindee Road in 1988 and is the hospital many Hat Yai families and long-term foreign residents use for routine care: 196 registered beds, 32 outpatient rooms, a dedicated spine unit, orthopaedics, cardiology, gastroenterology, a children’s department, an IVF clinic and a rehabilitation and physiotherapy centre, with operating theatres staffed around the clock. It has been accredited by Thailand’s hospital-quality institute seven consecutive times and holds AACI international accreditation, and it publishes a separate accident-and-emergency number. The Thonburi prefix came with the group’s majority stake; locals still call it Rajyindee.
Who it suits
Travellers with a minor or moderate illness or injury who want a private hospital close to the centre without paying flagship prices, families, and anyone staying east of the railway line. The hospital states that foreign visitors from Malaysia and Singapore are a regular part of its clientele, and English is spoken at the desks and by the doctors. It is not the place for major trauma or complex surgery — those go to Bangkok Hospital Hat Yai or Songklanagarind — but for a fever, a fracture, a stomach infection or a scooter fall it is quick and competent.
Cost and insurance
The most affordable of the three private hospitals in the city, and noticeably cheaper than Bangkok Hospital Hat Yai for the same outpatient visit. Payment is at the cashier; insurance is pay-and-claim for most visitors unless your insurer has a contract with the hospital, so ask at reception before treatment starts. A deposit may be requested on admission. Ask for a written estimate before a procedure, and for an English medical certificate and an itemised receipt at discharge; both are routine requests here, and both are needed for a claim.
Getting there
On Rajyindee Road in the eastern part of the city centre, about 1.5 km east of Hat Yai Junction railway station and five minutes by car from Kim Yong market — a short tuk-tuk or motorbike-taxi ride from the hotels around the Niphat Uthit roads, or a twenty-minute walk.
