Opened in the 1990s as Sriburin Hospital and now part of the Bangkok Chain Hospital group, Kasemrad Sriburin is the city’s other mid-market private hospital: around 120 beds on the Asia Highway a few kilometres south of the clock tower, with an accident and emergency centre, outpatient clinics, surgery and the group’s 1218 hotline. Locals still call it Sriburin.
What it is known for
Being the practical private hospital on the highway. Kasemrad Sriburin opened in the mid-1990s as Sriburin Hospital, joined the Bangkok Chain Hospital group and took its name, and has since been renovated into a clean, modern mid-sized hospital of around 120 beds. It has an accident and emergency centre, operating theatres and the usual clinics — medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, women’s and children’s health, dentistry and a health check-up centre — and a location on Highway 1 that makes it the easiest hospital to reach by car from the southern side of the city, Central Chiangrai and Bus Terminal 2. The group also has a small branch in Mae Sai.
Who it suits
Travellers with insurance or a moderate budget who want a private hospital for a minor illness or injury without paying Bangkok Hospital prices, anyone staying south of the centre, and families — it has paediatric and obstetric clinics and is used by many Chiang Rai families for exactly that. Some doctors and desk staff speak English, though not all, and there is no interpreter service to speak of. It is not the place for major trauma or complex surgery: those cases go to Prachanukroh or, with insurance, to Bangkok Hospital Chiang Rai, and the hospital will refer you on.
Cost and insurance
Mid-range private prices, broadly in line with Overbrook and well below Bangkok Hospital Chiang Rai. The Kasemrad group has contracts with many Thai and some international insurers, so ask at the desk whether yours can be billed directly; otherwise pay and claim. A deposit is normal on admission, and a written estimate is available before any procedure if you ask for it. Request the itemised receipt and an English medical certificate before discharge — the paperwork is done here routinely, but not unless you ask.
Getting there
On the frontage road of Highway 1 — the Asia Highway, or Phahonyothin Road — in San Sai, about three kilometres south of the clock tower and roughly halfway between the centre and Bus Terminal 2: ten minutes by Grab or tuk-tuk from the old town, and any southbound songthaew along the highway passes the gate.
