Not to be confused with its parent in the city. Rajthanee Rojana is the second hospital of the same listed group, a 100-bed general hospital on Rojana Road out near the Rojana Industrial Park, about eleven kilometres south-east of the island. It exists mainly for the estate’s factories and their staff — hence an occupational health centre and a website in Japanese — but it has a trauma and emergency centre and 24-hour ambulances, and for anyone staying or driving on that side of the province it is the nearest hospital.
What it is known for
Serving the industrial estate. Rajthanee Rojana was built by the Rajthanee Hospital group as its second hospital, out on Rojana Road near the Rojana Industrial Park, one of the biggest manufacturing estates in the country. It has 100 beds, Thai Hospital Accreditation and laboratory accreditation, a trauma, emergency and neurosurgery centre, an occupational health and wellness centre for the factories, and clinics in internal medicine, neurology, orthopaedics, surgery, obstetrics, paediatrics, eyes, ear-nose-and-throat and dentistry. Its ambulances run 24 hours a day. Serious cases it cannot handle go to the group’s larger hospital in the city or on to Bangkok.
Who it suits
Business travellers and expatriates working at the Rojana, Hi-Tech and Bang Pa-in estates, anyone staying out on that side of the province, and drivers hurt on that stretch of Highway 309. Japanese speakers will find it unusually accommodating for a provincial hospital — its website is written for the estate’s Japanese firms as much as for Thais. Tourists based in the old city have no reason to come this far: the parent hospital is seven kilometres nearer town, bigger and better equipped, and the two share a name that confuses drivers, so say “Rojana” clearly if this is the one you mean.
Cost and insurance
Provincial private prices, a little below its parent hospital. It publishes a list of the insurance companies it works with and can arrange direct billing for an admission where a contract exists; many of its patients are covered by employers’ group policies, which it handles every day. Travellers on their own policy should expect to pay a deposit on admission and to pay-and-claim for outpatient care. As everywhere in Thailand, ask for the estimate first, the itemised receipt afterwards and an English medical certificate for the claim; a hospital that deals with foreign employers is used to producing them.
Getting there
On Rojana Road (Highway 309), about eleven kilometres south-east of the island and seven kilometres beyond its parent hospital, out towards the Rojana Industrial Park and Wang Noi; the road is the estate’s main artery and is thick with trucks and shift traffic in the early morning and late afternoon. A Grab or taxi from the old city takes twenty to thirty minutes. For an ambulance call +66 35 249 249 and ask for extension 0 or 132; the service runs 24 hours. Tell the driver “rong phayaban Ratchathani Rojana” — the second word matters, or you will be taken to the hospital in town.
