Kuala Selangor
Kuala Selangor is a quiet town where the Selangor River meets the sea, about 55 kilometres northwest of Kuala Lumpur. It is an easy day trip by car, and it is all about nature. At night, small boats glide along the dark river at Kampung Kuantan, where thousands of fireflies flash together in the mangrove trees. On a few days each month, at very low tide, boats run out to the Sky Mirror, a sandbar where a thin layer of water reflects the sky like glass. In town, Bukit Melawati is a green hill with a lighthouse, sea views and gentle silvered leaf monkeys. Below it, Kuala Selangor Nature Park has mangrove boardwalks and many birds. Across the river at Pasir Penambang, open-air restaurants serve fresh seafood. Most visitors come in the afternoon, eat an early seafood dinner and take a firefly boat after dark. Check the tide tables if you want to add the Sky Mirror.
