Chularat Rayong is the middle rung of the city’s three hospitals: a small private general hospital on Chan Udom Road in Tha Pradu, a few streets from the public hospital and run by the Chularat group, a chain of hospitals across Thailand’s eastern seaboard. Its own site says it is open every day, around the clock, and it carries specialist clinics well beyond what its size suggests.
What it is known for
Everyday private medicine in the middle of town, at a price that does not need an insurer behind it. Chularat Rayong is the group’s Rayong hospital, a compact general hospital on Chan Udom Road that states it is open every day around the clock, and it carries more specialist clinics than its size suggests: a heart and vascular centre, haemodialysis, urology, neurosurgery and an occupational-health screening centre built for the industrial estates west of the city. It also treats patients on Thai social security, which matters if you live and work here.
Who it suits
Visitors staying in or near the city centre with something that needs a doctor but not a trauma team — a stomach infection, an infected cut, a fever, a sprain — who want to be seen quickly rather than wait out the public queue, and who do not want to pay Bangkok Hospital prices for it. It suits residents on Thai social security. Major trauma and anything complicated are better taken straight to Bangkok Hospital Rayong or, if cost decides, to Rayong Hospital.
Cost and insurance
Mid-range private pricing: well below Bangkok Hospital Rayong, above the public hospital. Some insurers have direct-billing arrangements with the Chularat group; for everyone else it is pay-and-claim, settled at the cashier on the day, so carry a card that works abroad. A deposit is normal on admission. Ask for the estimate before treatment starts, and ask for an itemised receipt and an English medical certificate before you leave — without them a claim is much harder to make from home.
Getting there
On Chan Udom Road in Tha Pradu, in the middle of Rayong city and only a few streets from the public hospital, so a taxi or songthaew crossing the centre passes close by. Tell the driver “rong phayaban Chularat”; the building sits on the road with its own forecourt.
