If money is not the first question, this is where most insured visitors end up: the Bangkok Dusit Medical Services group’s hospital for Rayong, on Moo 2 in Noen Phra a few minutes west of the city centre. Its accident and emergency centre sits on the ground floor of Building B, is staffed by emergency-medicine specialists and is open around the clock, and it answers on 1719 from any Thai phone as well as on its own line.
What it is known for
Being the serious private option on this stretch of coast. Bangkok Hospital Rayong belongs to the BDMS group that runs Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and the Bangkok Hospital network nationally, and it brings the group’s standard package to a provincial city: an accident and emergency centre staffed by emergency-medicine specialists and open twenty-four hours a day, its own ambulances, an interventional radiology unit, rehabilitation, mental health and a wellness centre, and a hotline, 1719, that reaches the whole network from any Thai phone. Cases it cannot handle go west to Pattaya or on to Bangkok, but very little needs to.
Who it suits
Anyone with travel insurance, anyone with a serious illness or injury, and anyone who would rather be treated in English than negotiate a Thai public hospital while in pain. It suits the long-stay residents and industrial staff who live west of the city, and it is the sensible destination for a casualty brought over from Koh Samet who has cover. If you are paying cash for something minor, it is the most expensive way to do it and the public hospital or Chularat Rayong will cost a great deal less.
Cost and insurance
The most expensive hospital in Rayong, priced like the group’s Bangkok and Pattaya hospitals. Cashless direct billing is available only to insurers the hospital has an agreement with; everyone else pays up front or leaves a deposit on admission, so ring your insurer’s assistance line before you go if the situation allows. Ask for a written estimate before any procedure, and keep every receipt and the discharge summary, because a claim will need both. An English medical certificate is a routine request here.
