Krabi’s private international hospital: 100 beds in Krabi Town, opened in 2014, with a 24-hour emergency room, an international insurance service and the widest private specialist cover in the province. If you are insured, or want to be treated in English without waiting, this is where most visitors end up.
What it is known for
Being the province’s international hospital. Krabi Nakharin opened in 2014 as a private hospital built around foreign patients as much as local ones, and with 100 beds it is the largest private hospital in Krabi. It runs a 24-hour emergency room and clinics in general surgery, internal medicine, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ear-nose-and-throat, eyes, urology, plastic surgery, dentistry and radiology, with an international insurance service to handle the paperwork. It is the Krabi hospital that travel insurers and assistance companies know, and the one some of the Ao Nang clinics refer their more serious patients to. What it does not have, like everything else in the province, is a recompression chamber: diving injuries go on to Phuket.
Who it suits
Anyone with travel insurance, anyone who wants a doctor who speaks English, and families who want the reassurance of a private hospital without the three-hour drive to Phuket. It handles the bread-and-butter of a beach province — scooter injuries, infections, stomach trouble, broken bones from a slip on wet limestone — and has the specialists for a good deal more. It is also the sensible first stop for a serious problem when you are insured: it can stabilise, treat or organise a transfer to Phuket or Bangkok, and it will deal with your insurer while it does so. For anything on the Ao Nang side that cannot wait half an hour, Wattanapat Hospital Ao Nang is closer.
Cost and insurance
The most expensive hospital in Krabi, though still priced as a provincial private hospital rather than a Bangkok or Phuket flagship. Cashless direct billing is available to insurers the hospital has a contract with, and in most cases only for admissions; anyone else pays up front or leaves a deposit, so ring your insurer’s assistance line before you go if the situation allows. Ask for a written estimate before any procedure and keep every receipt and the discharge summary — both are needed for a claim, and the international office will produce an English medical certificate on request.
Getting there
In Krabi Town, on Pisanpop Road in the Pak Nam district, a few minutes by car from the night market and the Chao Fah pier. From Ao Nang it is about twenty kilometres and half an hour by taxi or Grab; from the airport about twenty minutes; from Koh Lanta roughly two hours including the ferry. The switchboard, +66 75 626 555, answers around the clock and is also how you call the hospital’s ambulance — there is no separate emergency number. Say ‘rong phayaban Krabi Nakharin’ to a driver and you will be understood.
Details checked against the hospital’s own website, September 2026. Call before a non-urgent visit; in an emergency call 1669 or the hospital’s own emergency line above. Travel information, not medical advice.
