Islanders shorten it to “Inter”; the old name, คลินิกอินเตอร์เนชั่นแนล เกาะช้าง (the International Clinic), is still on many maps.

If you have insurance, or simply want to be seen in English at any hour, this is the door most visitors use: a small private hospital at the southern end of White Sand Beach, run by Bangkok Hospital Trat and part of the BDMS group. It has been on the island since 2005 as a clinic and since 2015 as a hospital, with a 24-hour emergency room, a laboratory, X-ray and CT, a few observation beds, an ambulance and a high-speed medical boat for transfers to the mainland.
What it is known for
Being the only private hospital on the island, and being open all night. Koh Chang International Hospital began in 2005 as Bangkok Hospital Trat’s island clinic and was upgraded to a hospital in 2015; it is still run from the mainland and belongs to the BDMS group behind Bangkok Hospital. It is small — a 24-hour emergency and travel-medicine service, general and specialist consultations, a handful of inpatient rooms for patients who need watching rather than surgery, a laboratory, X-ray and a CT scanner — and its real job is triage: it stabilises, treats what it can, and sends the rest to Trat by ambulance and ferry or by its own high-speed medical boat.
Who it suits
Insured visitors, anyone who wants to be treated in English without waiting, and anyone hurt or taken ill on the west-coast beaches at night, when it is the nearest emergency room that is certainly open. Families use it for children’s fevers and ear infections; divers and scooter casualties use it for the first assessment. It is not the place for a long or complicated admission — that is Bangkok Hospital Trat on the mainland — and it is an expensive place to have a mosquito bite looked at, so for something trivial a pharmacy or the public hospital will do.
Cost and insurance
The most expensive medical door on Koh Chang, and priced above its parent hospital on the mainland: island guides quote a few thousand baht just to see a doctor, against a few hundred at Bangkok Hospital Trat. The hospital coordinates with Thai and foreign insurers and will seek a guarantee of payment for an admission or a transfer if your insurer has an agreement with BDMS; otherwise you pay, keep the itemised receipt and claim. A boat transfer is billed on top, and it is not a small item. Ring the assistance number on your policy as early as you can, and ask for a written estimate before anything that is not urgent.
Getting there
On the main road at the southern end of White Sand Beach, just over the hill before Pearl Beach and Klong Prao — about twenty minutes from the ferry piers, five from the middle of White Sand Beach and forty-five minutes to an hour from Lonely Beach and Bang Bao on the winding coast road. Any songthaew will drop you at the gate; in an emergency call +66 39 551 554 and the hospital sends its own ambulance, which is quicker and safer than a motorbike or a rented car on the hills. From the mainland side, its parent hospital will arrange the crossing.
