The Quezon City campus is the older half of St. Luke’s, on E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue between Cubao and New Manila, where the hospital has stood since 1961. It was the first hospital in the country accredited by Joint Commission International, in 2003, and the first accredited as an academic medical centre, in 2016. For anyone staying in Quezon City it is the obvious choice: the same group and the same standard as the Global City campus, without an hour in traffic.
What it is known for
Being first, and being the teaching half of St. Luke’s. The hospital has occupied its site on E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue since 1961 and was the first in the Philippines to be accredited by Joint Commission International, in 2003, with further accreditations listed through 2012 and accreditation as an academic medical centre in 2016; its stroke programme holds a separate JCI clinical care certification. It is a full tertiary hospital with a 24-hour emergency department and the group’s specialist institutes, and it takes referrals from across the north of Metro Manila and beyond.
Who it suits
Anyone staying in Quezon City, Cubao, New Manila or the northern half of the metro, where crossing to Makati in the afternoon can take the better part of an hour. It is the same standard of care as the Global City campus, and the same international-patients service: a multilingual team to coordinate appointments and records, and a patient relations desk on extension 4122 from 8am to 5pm, seven days a week. It is a serious hospital for serious problems; for a minor complaint you will pay for the address.
Cost and insurance
The top of the Philippine private market, in line with the Global City campus. Payment is secured before admission and the bill settled before discharge, so a foreign patient without a guarantee of payment is asked for a deposit at the front — ring your insurer’s 24-hour assistance line before you go and let it send the guarantee. Direct billing to a foreign insurer is never automatic and depends on that insurer’s arrangements, so plan to pay and claim, keep every itemised receipt and ask for an English discharge summary.
Getting there
279 E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, between Cubao and New Manila, about ten minutes from the Cubao transport hub and the Araneta malls. From Makati or Bonifacio Global City allow forty minutes to an hour and a half depending on EDSA, which is exactly why this campus exists as well as the one in Taguig.
