Opened in 2010, the Global City campus is St. Luke’s second hospital and the one most visitors are nearest to: around 600 beds on Rizal Drive in the middle of Bonifacio Global City, minutes from the BGC hotels and a short hop across the Kalayaan flyover from Makati. It runs a 24-hour emergency department, the group’s specialist institutes, and an international-patients service with a multilingual team to coordinate a foreign patient’s care.
What it is known for
Being the newest hospital of this standard in the country, and being where the visitors are. St. Luke’s opened the Global City campus in 2010 on Rizal Drive in the middle of Bonifacio Global City, with around 600 beds, a 24-hour emergency department and the group’s specialist institutes for heart, cancer, neurosciences, orthopaedics, digestive and kidney disease in one building. The hospital lists Joint Commission International accreditation in 2012 and again in 2015, and a JCI clinical care certification for its primary stroke programme in 2014. It is the closest large hospital to the BGC hotels and offices, and one of the closest to the airport.
Who it suits
Anyone with travel insurance or the means to pay, anyone staying in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig or the southern half of Makati, and anyone who would rather be treated in English without having to explain themselves twice. St. Luke’s publishes an international-patients service that says it assigns a multilingual team to coordinate a foreign patient’s appointments, records and transport, and its patient relations desk answers on the switchboard, extension 7770, from 8am to 5pm seven days a week. For a minor complaint it is expensive for what it is; for anything serious it is where you want to be.
Cost and insurance
Priced at the top of the Philippine market, which still undercuts a Western private hospital by a wide margin. The money question here is not the rate, though, it is the deposit: like every hospital in the country, St. Luke’s expects payment to be secured before it admits a patient and settled before it discharges one, and a foreign patient without a guarantee of payment is asked for a deposit at the front. If you are insured, ring the assistance number on your policy before you arrive and let the insurer deal with the hospital. Keep the itemised bill and ask for an English discharge summary.
Getting there
On Rizal Drive at the corner of 32nd Street and 5th Avenue, in the middle of Bonifacio Global City: fifteen to twenty minutes on foot from the hotels around Market! Market! and Bonifacio High Street, or a few minutes by car. Grab is the reliable way to arrive and the ambulance number is the switchboard, +63 2 8789 7700. From Makati allow twenty minutes off-peak and twice that when the Kalayaan flyover is backed up; from the airport, about twenty minutes with the traffic behaving.
