A Cambodian-owned private hospital that grew out of a clinic and has become the everyday choice of most foreigners living in Siem Reap. General consultation, inpatient care and emergency cover run around the clock, with intensive care, surgery, obstetrics, paediatrics, physiotherapy and a laboratory behind them, and the prices are published on its own website in United States dollars. Its ambulance does local pick-ups and long-distance transfers, including across the border.
What it is known for
Being the practical middle option. Neak Tep opened as a clinic in 2010, was licensed as a hospital in 2018, and now runs emergency and intensive care, cardiology, surgery, anaesthesiology, dermatology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, physiotherapy and a pharmacy, with X-ray, ECG and Doppler ultrasound for diagnosis. It is also where people go for the certified medical certificate a work permit or a visa application needs. Unusually for the region it publishes a full price list on its own website, in dollars, which makes it the easiest hospital in Siem Reap to plan around before you walk in.
Who it suits
Almost any ordinary problem: a stomach infection, a fever that needs a blood test, stitches, a sprain, a scooter graze, a vaccination, a check-up. Foreign residents use it as their first stop and visitors increasingly do the same, because the doctors work in English and the bill is a fraction of the international hospital’s. For major trauma, or anything needing sustained intensive care, treat it as a place to be stabilised rather than a destination — that case is going to Bangkok, and the sooner the assistance line on your policy knows, the better.
Cost and insurance
The published list gives the scale: roughly US$20–30 for a consultation, about US$30 for a specialist one, US$5 a day in nursing fees, an emergency service charge of about US$40–100, an intensive-care room around US$50 a day, and major surgery from a few hundred dollars upwards. Payment is in United States dollars. The hospital says it works with national and international insurers, either by giving you the documents to claim with or by billing the insurer directly where a corporate agreement is already in place — so assume pay-and-claim unless your own insurer confirms otherwise in writing.
Getting there
On 7 Makara Street in Chun Lung village, Sangkat Sala Kamreuk, on the south-east side of town, roughly ten minutes by tuk-tuk from the Old Market. The hospital runs a 24-hour ambulance on the same number as its switchboard, and states that it will also carry patients on to Phnom Penh, to other provinces, and to neighbouring Thailand and Vietnam — worth knowing if a transfer is being discussed. Ask your hotel to call rather than trying to give a Khmer address over the phone in English.
