Paradise Cave in Phong Nha

Locals found it in 2005, British cavers surveyed it, and when Paradise Cave (Thiên Đường) opened in 2010 it instantly became Phong Nha's showpiece dry cave: more than 31 kilometres of surveyed passage hidden under the karst, with the first kilometre laid out on polished wooden boardwalks. You descend a staircase into a chamber so vast the lights fade into haze — many visitors rank it above anything else in the park.
Inside the Cave
From the modest mouth — reached by around 500 steps up the hillside — wooden stairs drop straight into the main cavern, past stalagmites the size of buildings, rippling flowstone curtains and terraced rimstone pools, all discreetly lit. The air stays cave-cool year-round, a welcome shock after the jungle heat. The public boardwalk runs roughly a kilometre; take it slowly on the way back, when the crowds thin and the scale really lands.
Getting There & Going Deeper
The cave sits deep inside the national park, about a 40-minute ride from Phong Nha town; from the car park, electric buggies cover most of the approach before the stair climb. Come early — the big tour groups arrive late morning. Fit and curious? Licensed operators run a guided 7 km extension beyond the boardwalk, wading and swimming into the unlit dark — book ahead, it's a different animal from the walkway stroll.
