VinWonders and the Cable Car in Nha Trang

Part of the Nha Trang travel guide — see every topic in All Nha Trang Guides.

VinWonders Nha Trang is a large theme park on Hon Tre, the biggest island in the bay. It was once known as Vinpearl Land, and many people still use that name. The park is reached by a long cable car over the sea or by speedboat. It is a full day out, popular with families and groups.

The sea cable car

The cable car runs from a station at the south end of the city out to Hon Tre island. It is about 3.3 kilometres long and crosses open water on tall towers, with big views of the bay, the city and the islands. The ride takes around 10 to 15 minutes each way. The cable car was out of service for some years and has since returned. It closes for maintenance from time to time, with speedboats running instead, so check the status before you go. Always check the current status before you go, because strong winds can also stop it.

Inside the park

VinWonders has many zones spread across the hillside and shore. There are fast rides and roller coasters, gentle rides for small children, a large water park with slides and wave pools, and an aquarium with a tunnel under the fish. There is also a garden area, games halls and a beach. Shows and a light and music show often run in the evening. Restaurants and snack bars are inside the park, but they cost more than in the city. Wear sun cream and a hat, because much of the park is in full sun.

Tickets and hours

The park usually opens from about 9:00 to 20:00. The entry ticket normally includes the cable car or boat transfer and most rides, but check what your ticket covers. Prices are higher at weekends and on holidays, and children under a certain height pay less or go free. Buying online in advance or through your hotel can save time at the gate. Some resorts on Hon Tre include park entry for their guests. Plan to arrive early, because queues for the most popular rides grow by late morning, especially in school holidays.

Tips for a good day

Start with the water park in the morning before it gets crowded, then move to the dry rides after lunch. Bring a swimsuit, towel and dry bag for your phone. Lockers are available. If you have small children, check the height limits for each ride on the park map first. Weekdays outside school holidays are the quietest. In the rainy season, from about October to December, some outdoor rides may close in storms and the sea crossing can be rough. Leave enough time for the return trip, as there can be a queue at closing time.
