Getting There and Rainy Season in Nha Trang

Part of the Nha Trang travel guide — see every topic in All Nha Trang Guides.

Nha Trang is easy to reach. Cam Ranh airport has many domestic and international flights, and the main north-south railway stops in the city. Buses connect it with Da Lat and other coastal towns. The weather matters most when you plan, because the rainy season can bring rough seas and storms.

By air: Cam Ranh airport

Cam Ranh airport, code CXR, is about 30 kilometres south of the city. It is one of the busiest airports in Vietnam, with frequent flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. It also has many direct international flights, especially from South Korea, with routes to cities such as Seoul and Busan, and links to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Routes change by season, so check the latest schedule. The drive into the city takes about 40 to 50 minutes along the coast. Choose a taxi, a ride app car, a hotel transfer or the airport bus.

By train and bus

Nha Trang station is on the main north-south railway line, about one kilometre from the city centre. Trains from Ho Chi Minh City take about 7 to 9 hours, and there are overnight trains with sleeper cabins. From Hanoi the trip takes more than a day. The coastal views on parts of the line are lovely, especially to the north. Long-distance buses and sleeper buses also link Nha Trang with Da Lat in about 3 to 4 hours, and with Hoi An, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Book tickets online, at the station or through your hotel.

Getting around the city

Most hotels are near the beach in the centre, so you can walk to many restaurants and shops. For longer trips, taxis are easy to find, and ride apps like Grab work well and show the price first. Local buses run along the main roads and to the airport. Many visitors rent a motorbike or bicycle to explore the coast. Only ride a motorbike if you are experienced and have the right licence. Tours with hotel pickup are the simplest way to reach the islands, mud baths and beaches outside the city.

The rainy season

Nha Trang has a different weather pattern from much of southern Vietnam. The dry season runs from about January to August, with sunny days and calm sea. The rainy season is from about September to December, and the heaviest rain usually falls in October and November. In these months storms can bring strong winds, rough seas and flooding in low streets. Boat trips, diving and the cable car may stop for days. If you visit then, keep your plans flexible, follow local weather news and choose indoor options like the mud baths on wet days.
