Jomtien and Quiet Beaches in Pattaya
Part of the Pattaya travel guide — see every topic in All Pattaya Guides.
Pattaya Beach in the city centre is busy and close to the road. But there are calmer beaches only a short ride away. Jomtien, to the south, is long and relaxed. Wong Amat and Naklua, to the north, are quiet and good for families. Further south, Bang Saray is a small fishing village with a slow pace. This guide helps you choose a quieter beach for your stay.
Jomtien
Jomtien beach starts just south of Pratumnak Hill, about 10 minutes from central Pattaya. It is about 6 km long and much calmer than Pattaya Beach. A wide road runs behind the sand, with condos, hotels and many places to eat. The beach is popular with families, long-stay visitors and Thai weekend visitors. It is a good place for kite surfing and jet skis, especially when the wind is strong. In the evening, the Jomtien night market sells food, snacks and small gifts. Sun chairs and umbrellas can be rented along most of the beach, and the sand is wide enough for long walks at sunset.
Wong Amat and Naklua
Wong Amat is a curved beach at the north end of Pattaya, in the Naklua area. It is lined with large hotels and condos, but it feels quiet and calm. The sand is clean and the water is good for swimming on calm days. The Sanctuary of Truth stands at the north end of the beach. Naklua is a more local area, with fishing boats, seafood restaurants and a quieter street life. Families often stay here, because it is a short songthaew ride from the city but far from the noise.
Pratumnak Hill
Pratumnak Hill lies between Pattaya Beach and Jomtien. It is a green, quiet area with homes, small hotels and a few small beaches. Cosy Beach is a small bay below the hill, with calm water on good days. The hill has a well-known viewpoint over Pattaya Bay. Pratumnak is a good choice for people who want a quiet base and still want to reach both the city and Jomtien quickly. Hotels here are often good value. Roads on the hill are steep in places, so a short taxi or songthaew ride is easier than walking in the heat.
Bang Saray and further south
Bang Saray is a fishing village about 20 km south of central Pattaya. It has a small beach, a pier with fishing boats and simple seafood restaurants by the water. It feels much slower and more local than Pattaya. Nong Nooch Garden and some water parks are nearby, so it is a calm base for a family trip. Further south, in the Sattahip area, there are more beaches with clear water. Some of these are on government land and have their own opening hours and rules, so check before you go.
Tips for families
Choose a hotel in Jomtien, Wong Amat or Pratumnak for a quieter stay. Many hotels in these areas have big pools and family rooms. The water at Pattaya beaches is not always clear, so a pool is useful. Check the flags on the beach before swimming and watch for jet skis close to shore. Sun is strong, so plan beach time for the morning and late afternoon. For clear water and soft sand, take a day trip to Koh Larn. Songthaew pickups link most areas, and ride apps work well in the city.
