Singha Park Cycling in Chiang Rai

Part of the Chiang Rai travel guide — see every topic in All Chiang Rai Guides.

Singha Park is a large farm and park southwest of Chiang Rai city. It covers about 12.8 square kilometres of tea rows, fruit farms, lakes and grassland. Wide, quiet roads run through the park, and they are great for cycling. Walking in is free; you pay only for bikes, the tram or activities. This guide explains how to visit and the best ways to see the park.

What Singha Park is

Singha Park is run by a large Thai drinks company. It is a working farm, with tea, fruit, vegetables and flowers, but it is also open to the public as a park. The landscape is open and green, with low hills, lakes and big trees. There are tea terraces on a hillside, flower fields in the cool season and lakes. The park is popular with Thai families at weekends. It is about 6 km from the White Temple, so many people visit both on the same day.

Cycling the park

Cycling is the best way to see Singha Park. Near the entrance there is a rental point with standard bicycles and electric bikes. Rentals are by time, usually in blocks of a couple of hours. The roads are paved and have very little traffic. Some parts are flat, and some have gentle hills, especially near the tea terraces. Electric bikes make the hills easy. Pick up a map at the rental point. A loop past the lakes, the tea and the flower fields takes about one to two hours with stops. Bring water and wear a hat, because there is little shade on some roads.

Tram, animals and activities

If you do not want to cycle, a tram makes a tour of the main sights. It stops at the tea terraces, the viewpoints and an area with giraffes and zebras. At timed sessions, visitors can feed the giraffes and zebras from a platform. Other activities include a zipline, ATV rides, a small climbing wall and golf carts for families. All of these have their own fees. The tram and some activities stop in the late afternoon, earlier than the park itself. Check the times at the entrance.

Tea, flowers and food

The tea terraces on the hillside are the most popular place for photos. From the top there is a view over the park and the hills. In the cool season, from about November to February, flower fields bloom and strawberries and other fruit grow in the farm areas. The park sometimes hosts festivals and events in this season. There are restaurants and cafés in the park, and they serve Thai food, coffee and fruit drinks. You can also buy tea and farm products to take home.

Getting there and when to go

Singha Park is southwest of Chiang Rai, a short drive from the city. Go by ride app, taxi or hired car, or combine it with a driver for a day of sights. Book a ride back in advance, or ask your driver to wait, because there are few taxis at the park. The park is open daily from about 9 am to 6 pm. Mornings are cooler and better for cycling. The cool, dry season is the most pleasant time. From about February to April the air can be smoky, and in the rainy season afternoon storms are common.
