Where to Stay and Eat in Siargao

Part of the Siargao travel guide — see every topic in All Siargao Guides.

Most visitors to Siargao stay in or near General Luna, in the southeast of the island. This is where the surf schools, cafes and restaurants are. But there are quieter places too, in the north and along the coast. This guide helps you choose where to stay and gives an overview of food on the island.

General Luna

General Luna, often called GL, is the main tourist town. The busiest road, often called Tourism Road, runs from the town towards Cloud 9 and is lined with hotels, cafes, restaurants and surf shops. Staying here puts you close to everything, including the boats for island hopping. It is lively in the evening, with music and bars. Accommodation ranges from simple hostels to small boutique resorts. If you want quiet nights, choose a place a little away from the main road.

Cloud 9 and the coast

The area around Cloud 9, just north of General Luna, has many surf camps and small resorts. It is a good base for surfers who want to be close to the waves. Mornings start early here, with surfers heading out at sunrise. The coastal road between General Luna and Cloud 9 also has guesthouses with garden or sea views. It is a little quieter than the centre of town but still a short ride from shops and restaurants. Many surf camps here offer lessons and board rental.

The quiet north

The north of Siargao is much quieter. Pacifico, in the town of San Isidro, has a long beach and a reef wave for experienced surfers. Burgos and Alegria have simple resorts, empty beaches and green rice fields. There are fewer restaurants and shops, and ATMs are hard to find. The north is a good choice for travellers who want space and peace. It is about one to two hours by road from General Luna, so you will need a scooter or a van to move around.

Food and cafes

Siargao has a surprising number of good cafes and restaurants for a small island. In General Luna, you can find smoothie bowls, wood-fired pizza, healthy cafes and international dishes. Local food is also easy to find. Try fresh grilled fish, kinilaw (raw fish in vinegar or citrus), and pork or chicken barbecue from small roadside grills. Small local eateries serve rice with simple dishes at low prices. Fresh coconuts and fruit shakes are everywhere. Many restaurants close early on quiet nights, so eat before 9 pm.

Tips for your stay

Book early for Christmas, New Year, Easter and the main surf season, as the best places fill up. Many hotels are small and family-run. Mosquitoes can be common, so bring repellent. Power and water supply can be limited in some areas, so use water carefully. Tap water is not safe to drink; use filtered water and refill your bottle. Support local businesses, and be friendly and respectful. Siargao is a small community, and visitors who are polite and patient are warmly welcomed.
