Taman Negara
Taman Negara means simply national park, and it is Malaysia's oldest and largest, gazetted in 1938 across parts of Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu. Its significance is its age: this lowland dipterocarp rainforest is frequently described as around a hundred and thirty million years old, having escaped both the ice ages and the volcanic disruption that reset forests elsewhere, which makes it one of the oldest continuously forested landscapes anywhere. It holds tigers, elephants, tapirs and sun bears, essentially none of which you will see, and a great deal that you will: one of the world's longest canopy walkways, night walks and wildlife hides, river rapids, limestone caves, and Batek Orang Asli communities who still live in it.
