Resort Packages in Redang Island
Part of the Redang Island travel guide — see every topic in All Redang Island Guides.
Redang is a resort island. There are no hostels in a town to walk into and few independent restaurants, so almost every visitor books a package with one resort. The package usually covers the boat, the room, meals and snorkelling trips for a set number of nights. This makes the trip easy, but it means you should compare packages carefully before you book.
What a package includes
A typical package is for two days and one night, three days and two nights, or longer. It usually includes the return boat from the jetty, your room, most or all meals, and one or more guided snorkelling trips. Some include the car transfer from Kuala Terengganu airport, a welcome drink or a beach barbecue night. The marine park fee may or may not be included. Read the list carefully and ask what is extra, such as drinks, diving, snorkel gear rental or extra boat trips.
Choosing a resort
Resorts range from simple chalets with fans to large, modern hotels with pools and spas. Pick your beach first. Pasir Panjang has the most resorts and some nightlife. Teluk Dalam is quieter and better for families. Check whether the room faces the sea or the garden, whether there is air conditioning, and whether the resort has a house reef for snorkelling. Read recent reviews about food and cleanliness. Larger resorts have more facilities, while smaller ones often feel more personal.
Meals and food
Most resort meals are buffets with Malaysian and western dishes, rice, noodles, grilled fish and fruit. Some resorts serve set meals instead. Food on the island is simple, because supplies come by boat. If you have special diet needs, tell the resort before you arrive. Many resorts in Terengganu do not sell alcohol, and some only sell it in a bar area, so check if this matters to you. Bring some snacks from the mainland, as shop choice on the island is small and prices are higher.
Money and practical tips
Bring enough cash, because ATMs on the island are rare or not working, and some small shops only take cash. Resorts often accept cards. Phone signal and Wi-Fi exist but can be slow or patchy, especially away from Pasir Panjang. Bring a torch, as some paths are dark at night. Pack light, quick-dry clothes, sunscreen, insect repellent and any medicine you need. There is only basic medical help on the island, so take care on the rocks and in the water.
