A 200-bed private general hospital in the middle of Surat Thani, open since December 1983 and by some distance the biggest private hospital in the city. Its own site lists departments across cardiology, surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics, ear-nose-and-throat, eyes, dentistry, dialysis, radiology and physiotherapy, and an emergency room it states is open around the clock.
What it is known for
Being the city’s own private hospital, and a substantial one. Thaksin opened on 26 December 1983 with ten beds and now has 200, on Talat Mai Road in the middle of Surat Thani, run by Surat Vechakij Co., Ltd. It lists a heart centre, surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics, ear-nose-and-throat, eye care, dentistry, a dialysis centre, radiology, physiotherapy and wound care, with an emergency room its own literature says is open 24 hours. Note that its website has been offline since mid-2025, so the switchboard, not the internet, is the way in.
Who it suits
Travellers staying in the centre of town — near the bus terminals, the night boat or the Ban Don market — who want private-hospital speed for something that is unpleasant rather than dangerous: a stomach bug that will not shift, an infected cut, a scooter graze, an ear that has stopped working after a dive. It has the scale to admit you if that turns out to be necessary. For a major trauma, or anything needing the deepest specialist cover, Surat Thani Hospital and Bangkok Hospital Surat are the better calls.
Cost and insurance
Mid-market private pricing: several times the public hospital, well below the Bangkok Hospital group. A deposit is normal on admission and direct billing depends entirely on which insurers the hospital has contracts with, so ask at the desk before treatment starts rather than afterwards. Most visitors will pay and claim. Settle at the cashier in cash or by card, and ask for an itemised receipt and an English-language medical certificate before you leave — requesting them later, from abroad, is a great deal harder.
Getting there
On Talat Mai Road in the Talat sub-district, the commercial heart of the city, a couple of hundred metres from St Raphael Cathedral and a short ride from the Ban Don river piers; about six minutes by car from Surat Thani Hospital and nine from Bangkok Hospital Surat. The switchboard is +66 77 278 777 and the emergency department is reached on extensions 4210 and 4215. Any songthaew along Talat Mai Road passes it, and Grab and Bolt both know the address.
Details checked against the hospital’s own website, September 2026. Call before a non-urgent visit; in an emergency call 1669 or the hospital’s own emergency line above. Travel information, not medical advice.
