The smallest of the city’s private hospitals, on Si Wichai Road in Makham Tia and roughly a kilometre from the big public hospital. It runs outpatient clinics and states that it takes casualties of motorcycle accidents under Thailand’s compulsory motor insurance, which in a province full of rented scooters is the most useful thing about it.
What it is known for
Being small, close and cheap. Si Wichai sits on Si Wichai Road in Makham Tia, about a kilometre south of Surat Thani Hospital, and works as the neighbourhood private hospital for that side of the city: outpatient clinics, a medical staff listed on its own pages, and health-insurance services. It states plainly that it accepts people injured in motorcycle accidents, which in Thailand means it will handle a claim under the compulsory motor insurance that every registered vehicle carries. Its website is no longer online, so the two phone numbers above are the way to reach it.
Who it suits
Travellers on a budget who want a private hospital rather than a public queue for something minor, anyone staying out along Si Wichai Road, and riders who have come off a rented scooter and need the compulsory-insurance paperwork started. It is not equipped for major trauma or complex surgery, and it does not pretend to be: for those, Surat Thani Hospital is a kilometre up the same road and Bangkok Hospital Surat is ten minutes west.
Cost and insurance
The cheapest private option in the city, and correspondingly modest. Payment is at the desk in cash or by card, and a small hospital like this is unlikely to have a direct-billing arrangement with a foreign travel insurer, so treat it as pay-and-claim. The compulsory motor insurance route covers only injuries involving a registered vehicle and, for the rider, a valid licence. Ask for an itemised receipt and an English-language medical certificate before you leave; both are ordinary requests, but neither is automatic.
Getting there
On Si Wichai Road in Makham Tia, roughly a kilometre south of Surat Thani Hospital on the same road, and six or seven minutes by car from the centre of town.
