Its accident and emergency department is open every day of the year, it runs its own 24-hour private ambulances and medical transport, and it holds both Joint Commission International and Malaysian Society for Quality in Health accreditation.
What it is known for
Depth, and fifty years of it. Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur opened in 1974 and is licensed for 507 beds on Jalan Bukit Pantai in Bangsar, which makes it the largest private hospital on this side of the city. It handles complex work — cardiac, oncology, neurology and stroke care among it — and its accident and emergency service is open 24 hours a day, every day including public holidays, with private ambulances and medical transport of its own. It states accreditation from both the Joint Commission International and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health.
Who it suits
Anyone staying in Bangsar, Mid Valley, KL Sentral or the southwestern suburbs, for whom this is much closer than the hospitals around KLCC, and anyone with insurance facing something serious. As part of the same group as Gleneagles it uses the same international patient arrangements, so a guarantee letter from a major travel insurer is familiar territory. General visiting is midday to two and six to eight, which is worth knowing if you are the one visiting rather than the patient.
Cost and insurance
Private pricing in the same band as the other large private hospitals here, and a fraction of what the same treatment costs in Britain or Australia. Getting there
On Jalan Bukit Pantai in Bangsar, a few minutes from Bangsar Village and about the same from Mid Valley, just off the Federal Highway that runs southwest out of the centre. There is no station at the hospital gate; a Grab from KL Sentral takes about ten minutes off-peak and considerably longer in the evening rush, when the Federal Highway is one of the first roads to fill.
