Koh Rong Island Beaches in Sihanoukville and Koh Rong
Part of the Sihanoukville and Koh Rong travel guide — see every topic in All Sihanoukville and Koh Rong Guides.
Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem are the two big islands off Sihanoukville. Both have white sand, clear water and green forest hills. Koh Rong is the larger island, with more than 20 beaches and a busier main village. Koh Rong Sanloem, also spelled Samloem, is smaller and calmer. Most places to stay are bungalows and small resorts. This guide describes the main beaches on each island and helps you choose where to stay.
Koh Touch and Police Beach
Koh Touch is the main village on Koh Rong, on the south-east coast. Most ferries from Sihanoukville land here. It has the most guesthouses, restaurants, bars and dive shops on the island. The beach in front of the village is busy, with boats and swimmers. Police Beach is a short walk away. It is known for late-night parties, especially at weekends. If you want food choices and a lively mood, stay near Koh Touch. If you want quiet nights, stay further away and visit the village for the day. Paths and new concrete roads now link Koh Touch with other parts of the island.
Long Set and 4K Beach
Long Set Beach lies on the west side of Koh Rong, north of Koh Touch. Some maps and guides call it 4K Beach. The sand is soft and white, and the water is clear and shallow near the shore. It faces west, so the sunsets are excellent. There are a few small resorts, but much of the beach is empty. You can reach it by a jungle path from Koh Touch, by tuk-tuk or motorbike on the island road, or by a short boat ride. The path takes about 45 minutes and is hot and steep in places, so bring water.
Sok San
Sok San is a fishing village at the northern end of the long west coast beach of Koh Rong. The sand here is wide and quiet, with clear water. Behind the village there is a small lagoon. In the wet season there is a waterfall a short walk into the forest. A few resorts offer comfortable bungalows and their own boat transfers. The area feels far from the busy village at Koh Touch. It is a good choice if you want long walks on the sand, calm sunsets and dark nights. Ask your resort how to get there, as transfers are often arranged in advance.
Saracen Bay
Saracen Bay is the main beach on Koh Rong Sanloem. It is a wide curve of fine white sand, about 2.5 km long, on the east side of the island. The bay is sheltered, so the water is usually calm and good for swimming. Resorts and bungalows line the back of the beach. There are restaurants and small bars, but the mood is quiet, with few parties. The water is shallow and clear, so it suits families and slow swimmers. Most ferries to Koh Rong Sanloem stop at piers in Saracen Bay. From here, you can walk or take a short boat to other beaches.
Lazy Beach, Sunset Beach and M'Pai Bay
On the west side of Koh Rong Sanloem, Lazy Beach and Sunset Beach face the open sea. Both have golden sand, few buildings and beautiful sunsets. You can reach them by forest paths from Saracen Bay, or by boat. Lazy Beach has a small resort with simple bungalows. Sunset Beach has rocks at each end, good for snorkelling on calm days. In the north of the island, M'Pai Bay is a small fishing village with guesthouses, cafes and dive shops. It is popular with backpackers and divers. The beach is quieter than Koh Touch but more lively than Saracen Bay.
