Thailand is where this collection is deepest, and with reason: it holds the strongest riverside luxury run in Asia and the coast where the pool villa was perfected. The four shortlists split cleanly by what you want from the trip — a city stay on the Chao Phraya, a west-coast resort in the high season, a Gulf island when the Andaman is drowning, or the quieter teak-and-rice country in the north.
The seasons matter more here than the prices. Phuket and the Andaman run November to April; Koh Samui and the Gulf are at their best when the west coast is wet, roughly June to September. Bangkok and Chiang Mai are year-round, though the north is at its finest in the cool months and worst in the March burning season.
