Sao Beach & Long Beach on Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc's reputation rests on two very different beaches. Sao Beach (Bai Sao), tucked into the island's southeast, is the postcard: squeaky white sand, shallow turquoise water and photogenic palm swings. Long Beach (Bai Truong) is the workhorse — a roughly 20-kilometre ribbon down the west coast where most resorts, beach bars and sunset views live. See both; they are only about forty minutes apart.
Two Beaches, Two Moods
Sao Beach is best early: arrive before the day-trip vans for the calmest, clearest water, and expect beach-chair vendors and jet-skis by midday. Long Beach never really empties — its northern end near Duong Dong town is lively with bars and massage huts, while the southern stretches stay quieter between the big resorts. The sand is finer and whiter at Sao; the sunsets belong entirely to west-facing Long Beach.
Timing & Practicalities
The dry season, roughly November to April, brings the flattest, clearest sea on both coasts — and the crowds. In the May–October rains the west coast can turn choppy, and Sao Beach's more sheltered bay is often the better swim. Grab cars and rented scooters cover the island easily; pair Sao Beach with Sunset Town and the cable car at the island's southern tip for a full day out.
