ICONSIAM is Bangkok's statement mall — a vast glass landmark on the Thonburi bank of the Chao Phraya that is as much a destination as a shopping centre. Inside are international flagships, a Japanese department store and river-view dining terraces; outside, a riverside park where fountain-and-light shows play most evenings. Half the fun is arriving: shuttle boats glide straight to its pier and the BTS Gold Line stops at the door.
SookSiam & What's Inside
Start on the ground floor at SookSiam, an indoor 'floating market' where wooden boats and craft stalls gather food and products from across Thailand's provinces — one of the city's best cheap-eats halls, air-conditioning included. Upstairs the mood turns glossy: flagship stores through the ICONLUXE wing, Siam Takashimaya, cinemas and floor after floor of restaurants, many with terrace tables facing the river. Art installations and pop-up events rotate through the atriums year-round.
Getting There & When to Go
The classic approach is by water: free shuttle boats run across from Sathorn Pier (BTS Saphan Taksin) and nearby stops, or ride the BTS Gold Line one stop from Krung Thonburi to Charoen Nakhon, which opens straight into the mall. Weekday mornings are calmest; evenings bring the riverfront alive with fountain shows and skyline lights. Around Loy Krathong and New Year's Eve, ICONSIAM stages some of Bangkok's biggest firework displays — spectacular, but claim your spot early.
