Siquijor

The small Visayan island of Siquijor sits between Cebu, Bohol, and Negros and runs at a noticeably slower pace than any of them. The whole island can be circumnavigated by motorbike in a long afternoon, which leaves time for the things that actually matter here: the cliff-jump platform at Salagdoong, the multi-tiered turquoise pools of Cambugahay Falls, the centuries-old balete tree at Lazi, and a sunset on Paliton Beach. Siquijor has a folk reputation for white-magic healers and aswang lore that locals are happy to tell stories about, especially during Holy Week. Ferries run several times a day from Dumaguete on Negros and from Tagbilaran on Bohol; pack light and rent a scooter on arrival.
