Mui Ne
Mui Ne is a long beach town on the south coast of Vietnam, a few hours east of Ho Chi Minh City. It sits on a cape just past the city of Phan Thiet, and since 2025 it is part of Lam Dong province. The land here is dry and sandy, which is unusual for Vietnam. Big dunes rise behind the coast. The red dunes are close to town, and the huge white dunes are about an hour's drive further along the coast. From about November to March a strong wind blows almost every day, and Mui Ne becomes one of the best places in Asia to learn kitesurfing. Away from the sand, you can walk barefoot up the Fairy Stream, a shallow creek between red and white cliffs. At the north end of the bay, round basket boats bring in the morning catch at the fishing harbour. Most hotels and resorts line one road along the beach. It is an easy weekend trip from Ho Chi Minh City by expressway, bus or train.
