Da Lat

Da Lat sits about 1,500 metres above sea level in the Central Highlands of southern Vietnam. The air is cool all year, so it feels very different from hot Ho Chi Minh City or the beaches below. Days are mild and nights can drop to around 10 degrees, so bring a jacket. Pine forest covers the hills around the city, and Xuan Huong lake lies right in the centre. Outside town you find the high peak of Langbiang, the large Tuyen Lam lake and many waterfalls in the forest. The slopes are full of greenhouses. Farmers grow flowers, strawberries, vegetables and arabica coffee here for the whole country. Da Lat is also young and relaxed. It has hundreds of cafes with valley views, a crowded night market and small art and design shops. Vietnamese couples and groups of friends come for weekends and holidays. The dry season, from about November to April, is the easiest time for hiking and views.
