Kenting

Kenting is at the far south end of Taiwan, on the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung County. Here the land ends between three bodies of water: the Pacific Ocean, the Taiwan Strait and the Luzon Strait. The weather is warm almost all year, and the sea is clear and blue. Most of the area is inside Kenting National Park, Taiwan's oldest national park, opened in 1984. It protects coral reefs, raised coral cliffs, grassland and coastal forest, plus a large part of the sea. Visitors come for soft sand beaches like Baisha, Nanwan and Little Bay, for surfing on the east coast at Jialeshui, and for easy walks to windy viewpoints at Eluanbi and Longpan. In the evening, Kenting Street turns into a long night market with grilled seafood and fruit drinks. The area is busy on summer weekends and holidays. For a calmer trip, come on weekdays, and plan for the strong winter wind.
