Lang Co Lagoon & Bach Ma Day Trips in Hue

A little over an hour south of Hue, the coast pulls off its double act: Lang Co, a white crescent of beach pinned between a mountain wall and a still lagoon striped with oyster frames, and Bach Ma National Park, a 1,450-metre cloud-forest summit where French colonial villas moulder among waterfalls. Together they make the classic big day out — a swim, seafood on stilts, and mountain air before dinner.
Lang Co Lagoon
The lagoon side is the show: stilt restaurants stand over glassy water where oyster ropes and fish traps stripe the shallows, and lunch is whatever came out of them that morning, priced by the kilo. The ocean side is a long, often near-empty beach. On the way down, the freshwater pools of Elephant Springs make a cooling stop, and the road climbing toward the Hai Van Pass serves the postcard view back over the whole sandbar.
Up Bach Ma
Bach Ma was a French hill station in the 1930s, and ruined villas still dot the ridgeline. From the gate, transport up the summit road is arranged locally — rules on private vehicles have shifted over the years, so check current practice — then trails link the swimmable pools of the Five Lakes, the plunging Do Quyen waterfall and the 360-degree Hai Vong Dai lookout. Aim for the drier months, roughly March to September; the park all but drowns in late autumn.
