Perfume River Sunset & Dragon Boats in Hue

Hue moves at the speed of its river. The Perfume River slides through the middle of the city, the Citadel on one bank and the modern town on the other, and at sunset it turns to hammered gold. That is the hour for a dragon boat — the gaudy twin-prowed cruisers that have carried visitors upstream for generations — or simply for the riverside promenade as the bridges light up.
On the Water
Boats gather along the south-bank wharves near Le Loi street; an hour's sunset loop is the classic, and longer runs head upstream to where the banks go green and village-quiet. After dark, some boats host ca Hue performances — Hue's own chamber folk music, sung to moon lute and zither on the water. Trips are cheap by any standard, but agree the route, duration and price clearly before you step aboard.
Along the Banks
Both banks are made for lingering: a wooden walkway and sculpture park stretch along the south side, and the steel arches of Trang Tien Bridge cycle through colours after dark. Cross it slowly, take a riverside café table, and try Hue's own invention — cà phê muối, salt coffee, a creamy-salty jolt that has since conquered the whole country. Weekend evenings add walking-street crowds and buskers near the bridge.
